| Hirtenberger AG can look back on more than 140 years of
company history. It was founded in 1860 as a family business
to manufacture metal products and various artillery materials.
Very soon, however, the company started to concentrate on
the industrial production of ammunition for guns and pistols,
both for military and private use.
Any company producing defence technology is linked to the
general political development of the country in which it is
located, particularly in times of war or crisis. The history
of our company, too, has been very eventful, reflecting the
ups and downs which determined Austria's history during the
last 150 years.
In the early 1990s we started to extend our product range
beyond mere ammunition (which by then already included ammunition
for tanks, artillery, and mortars). In line with our key skills,
new business lines were either developed or bought in.
The company is completely privately owned and employs more
than 600 people. By preserving traditional values and combining
them with the strong innovative power of an international
speciality business, the Hirtenberger group has managed to
gain a leading position in its markets and to expand its business.
